His professional football career spanned 25 years, during which time he played 760 games and score 289 goals. He played for Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur (twice), Manchester United, Portsmouth, West Ham United before finishing his career at the end of the 2007-08 season at Colchester United. Oh, and he won 51 England caps and scored 11 times for his country. We are of course talking about Teddy Sheringham.
Sheringham bought into WPT National London just after the dinner break and was immediately swamped by football fans. Always the gentleman, Sheringham posed for half-a-dozen pictures before taking his seat over on Table 1.
Those of you who do not follow poker closely are probably wondering why Sheringham has bought into this £1,500 buy-in event when he is more suited to the green football pitch, not the green and black felt on the poker table. But you would be wring for thinking like that because Sheringham is quite a talented poker player too, one with almost $330,000 worth of live tournament cashes and an EPT final table appearance and two World Series of Poker cashes under his belt.
Sheringham’s biggest cash to date tops the scales at €93,121—his reward for finishing fifth at EPT Vilamoura in 2010. Since then, Sheringham’s cashes have been much closer to home including two final table appearances in the Palm Beach Big Game, another final table finish at The Ritz Club.
He certainly has sporting pedigree and that has carried over to his poker game. How far can he go here in London.
