The WPT Montreal Main Event has reached its nine-handed final table and it is a familiar name at the top of the chip counts. Dan Shak is the man to catch going into the final table, although he leads by the narrowest of margins and the chasing pack is full of talented grinders.

Shak sits down at the final table armed with 29,939,376 chips which are enough to earn him the title of chip leader. Shak is a hedge fund manager by trade but is also a very keen poker player, one with more than $10 million in live tournament cashes. He’s racked up more than 120 live cashes and two of those have been for more than $1 million. Now he is in pole position to become a WPT champion at partypoker.
Rayan Chamas is only a handful of chips behind Shak in the chip counts; the Canada-based Lebanese pro has 29,161,187 chips in his arsenal. Chamas came close to winning a WPT event in 2015 when he finished third in the $2,200 NL Hold’em Six-Max event at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. Now he has a very real chance of becoming a WPT Main Event champion.
Day 1A Chip Leader Takes Seat at the Final Table
Third place at the restart belongs to Andrei Kriazhev who has 28,699,210 chips. Kriazhev finished Day 1A of this event at the top of the chip counts and built his stack on Day 2 to finish second in the standings. Now Kriazhev is third in chips at this star-studded final table.
Kriazhev came close to winning a WPTWOC event last year. He finished fourth in the WPT 6-Max Mini Championship, won by Brazil’s Bruno Volkmann, and banked $53,230. Finishing seventh or above at this final table was reel in a larger prize than that one.
Two British stars currently occupy fourth and fifth place in the chip counts. Jack Hardcastle (25,425,280) has been in scintillating form of late and we would not be surprised to see him be the last man standing in this event. When a good player runs well it is a deadly combination.
Charles “Chaz” Chattha
Chaz Chattha (19,421,123) is a name you’ll be familiar with if you have ever followed live poker updates from the United Kingdom. Chattha is best known as a live tournament grinder, one with more than $1.4 million in cashes, but he’s proved to be no slouch in the online arena too. He’s a fearless competitor and has to be one of the favourites going into this finale.
Former WPTDeepStacks Champion in the Mix
Felix Schulze ended Day 2 of this Main Event with 20,785,963 chips, enough for the chip lead. Day 3 was a real grind and while Schulze didn’t build his stack (18,502,921) he managed to make it to the final table with enough chips for sixth place.
Schulze won a WPTDeepStacks title in April 2019 and is now looking to join an exclusive club of players who have both a WPTDeepStacks gong and a Main Event title.
Germany’s Marcel Kunze finds himself in seventh-place at the restart with 13,724,122 chips, slightly more than the 10,415,776 chips he finished Day 2 with. The latter was enough for fifth place in the overnight chip counts, now he is eight eliminations away from securing a near $450,000 first-place prize.
Jakob Miegel (7,281,063) is the second-shortest stack at the final table but still has around 20 big blinds at his disposal. Miegel finished third in a €2,200 buy-in partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Europe side event in 2019 so will be hoping to go two places deeper in this tournament. He is a WSOP-C ring winner having won the €850 Mini Main Event in Rozvadov in March 2018.
Upeshka Da Silva
Bringing up the rear with 5,445,718 chips is Upeshka Da Silva. He has three WSOP bracelets and cruelly missed out on the opportunity to win a fourth only a few months ago. Da Silva contracted COVID-19 and was disqualified from the WSOP Online Main Event as a result. He’s plenty of work to do at this final table but if anyone can turn things around it is Da Silva.
