Only 51 players remain in the £1 million guaranteed 2014 partypoker WPT UK Main Event as the £3,000 buy-in tournament reaches its third day of play. The name at the top of the chip counts going into Day 3 is a familiar one, it is that of Adrian Mateos who you may recall was the chip leader at the end of Day 1a.
Mateos returns to Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) on Friday afternoon armed with 560,500 chips, but it could have been a different story entirely had he not gone on a last-level heater that saw him bolster his stack by almost 400,000 chips.
The 2013 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion helped himself to on of the largest pots of the tournament so far after a clash with Norbert Berent that resulted in Berent busting and Mateos climbing to the top of the chip counts.
Both players checked the [Kx][Ax][4x] flop despite Berent five-betting preflop. Mateos check-called a bet on the [9x] turn before check-calling an all-in bet of 150,000 from Berent on the [Qx] river. Mateos revealed for two pair and Berent attempted to much, but was forced to reveal his holding – the lowly for a bluff that had gone horrible wrong.
That hand put Mateos up to 510,000 chips and he managed to add a further 50,500 chips before play ended for the night.
Standing between Mateos and the £200,000 first place prize are 50 talented opponents who are all going to have a say in where the title ends up.
Hot on the heels of the Spanish chip leader is Christos Kyprianou with 525,500 chips with the formidable Ben Warrington the only other player to accumulate at least half-a-million chips with 507,000 in his stack.
Other big names to look out for during Day 3’s proceedings include David Peters (403,500), William Chattaway (373,000), Ben Vinson (341,000), Charlie Combes (341,000), Tamer Kamel (336,500), former WSOP Main Event finalist Antoine Saout (324,000), former world number one in the online poker rankings Patrick Leonard (194,000), Triple Crown holder Jake Cody, Chris Moorman (126,000), Tom Middleton (112,500), partypoker qualifier Morten Mortensen (87,000) and former Irish Open champion Ian Simpson (58,000).

Six of the returning 51 players will leave DTD empty handed as only 45 places are paid. Anyone reaching the money places guarantees themselves a £6,000 payday, while anyone surviving Day 3 will see their cash haul increase to £10,200 where only 18 players will remain.
One player who is already quids in even if he busts before the money is the WPT L.A. Poker Classic champion Chris Moorman thanks to him flopping the absolute nuts. Moorman held and saw the flop fall gifting him the ultra-rare royal flush. Despite not being paid off by his opponent, Moorman won a cruise for two with Royal Caribbean Cruises for managing to hit the strongest hand in poker.
Day 3 commences at 13:00 GMT on Friday 21 November and the plan is to reduced the field to the final two tables. Will Mateos be able to hold onto the chip lead for a third consecutive day or will one of the chasing pack take over at the top of the leader board? We will have the answer to that question in the not too distant future.
