Those of you who checked out out article on five players to watch at the World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event will no doubt remember that we singled out Scott Clements for success in the $3,850 buy-in spectacular. It appears that Clements took note of our confidence in his ability and he ended Day 1a with a tournament leading stack of 266,500 chips.

A total of 133 players chose Thursday’s Day 1a as their starting flight and only 45 of those starters managed to navigate their way through the shark-infested waters at the Playground Poker Club. As usual, the atmosphere in the poker room was buzzing with excitement as some of world poker’s biggest names and most established stars took to the felt in an attempt to become a WPT champion.

Joining Clements at the right end of the leader board were the likes of Sam Chartier (200,300), Elliot Smith (197,600), Will Molson (185,400), Connor Drinan (155,400), Sam Greenwood (147,000), another of our five to watch Mukul Pahuja (144,200) and Shannon Shorr (127,400).
