Brazil’s Pablo Brito Silva Wins 2020 Irish Open Main Event

Pablo Brito Silva is the man that goes down in the history books as the winner of the first-ever online Irish Open Main Event. The man who calls Bahia, Brazil home outlasted a star-studded field of 2,945 players to secure the gigantic €462,099 first-place prize.

2020 Irish Open Main Event Final Table Results

Fifty-one players returned to their seat for the final day’s action with Sihao Zhang leading the way. The structure of the tournament was so good that any of the returning players had a shot at the title.

Players fell one by one until the eight-handed final table was reached, and what a final table it was. Six different countries were represented at the final table, showing that poker truly is a global game.

Ireland’s Shaun Conroy was the first finalist to hit the rail, his eighth-place exit locking up a €29,096 score. Conroy would have been an extremely popular champion back home but it wasn’t meant to be. His elimination left Gerard Finlay as Ireland’s sole representative in the field.

Coolers For Talbot and Middleton

Streaming extraordinaire Parker “tonkaaaaP” Talbot was the next player to fall by the wayside. The Canadian banked €45,647 for his seventh-place finish. Talbot busted when Zhang jammed all-in from the button with A♠ 10♣ and Talbot called from the big blind with Q♣ Q♦. The board ran 10♦ 9♣ 5♥ 10♥ 6♥ to gift Zhang trips.

Former EPT Barcelona champion Tom Middleton ran out of luck and fell in sixth-place. Middleton collected €65,820 for his efforts. Middleton came unstuck shortly after Talbot’s exit. He opened to 1,000,000 and Brito Silva called in the big blind. Brito Silva check-called a 1,435,500 bet on the 2♠ Q♣ K♠ flop. Brito Silva led for 1,644,300 on the 8♣ turn and called when Middleton shoved for 5,410,506 in total. Middleton turned over K♥ Q♦ for two pair. Brito Silva showed K♣ 3♣ for top pair and a flush draw. The 5♣ river completed that flush and Middleton was gone.

Gerard Finlay was nursing a short stack at the final table and had resorted to pushing all-in or folding. He three-bet all-in over the top of a Zhang opening raise with pocket queens. Zhang called with ace-king and proceeded to flop an ace. Good game for the last remaining Irishman.

Eduardo Silva was the next to bust, doing so in fourth-place for €139,044, the first six-figure prize of the tournament. A superb run by a superb player.

Heads-Up Set

Heads-up was set when start-of-the-day chip leader Zhang crashed out in third-place. He walked away with a cool €210,273.

The heads-up battle was an epic affair with both players bamboozling the Twitch viewers with bluffs and crazy bet sizing. The chip lead swapped hands several times, but it was Brito Silva who eventually pressed ahead.

It was during the 400,000/800,000/100,000a level that the final hand took place. Brito Silva opened to 1,600,000 and Andras Nemeth called. A flop reading J♣ 8♦ 4♣ saw Nemeth check-call a 2,550,000 bet. The turn was the 10♦ and Nemeth checked again. Brito Silva fired a 6,375,000 bet, Nemeth jammed for 25,941,200 and was called!

It was J♦ 10♣ for Nemeth for top two, but 9♥ 7♣ for Brito Silva who turned a straight. The 3♥ river failed to change the result, meaning Nemeth busted in second-place and collected $325,423, leaving Brito Silva to bank a career-best online prize €462,100.

It’s been quite the year for Brito Silva because he won the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS South America Main Event in February and walked away with the $1 million top prize and the winner’s trophy. Now he has the 2020 Irish Open Main Event title on his impressive poker resume.

The entire final day was streamed on our Twitch channel complete with commentary from Irish legend Fintan Gavin. You can watch all the action via this link, you want to because there were some awesome hands.
