Mike Sexton

22nd September 1947 - 6th September 2020

A bona fide member of the Poker Hall of Fame with more than $6.7 million in live tournament winnings, Mike Sexton was the official partypoker Chairman and one of the most iconic poker commentators on the planet. He’s also partypoker through and through, even helping to choose the name.

Mike was with us since the very beginning, working as Poker Domain Expert in the site’s infancy and helping it to become one of the biggest poker brands in the world. He represented us by being the face of the inaugural partypoker Millions tournament in 2002 which went on to be filmed for television and feature on the Travel Channel. The success of this had a significant impact on the subsequent deal to televise the WPT not long after, which in turn helped drive the poker boom.

“The Ambassador of Poker” captured his first-ever WPT title in 2016. Having commentated on the WPT for years, it was a special moment when Mike accomplished a dream of his and took down the WPT Montreal Main Event for more than CAD 425,000.

The impact Mike has had in the poker world cannot be overstated and this was recognised further by the World Poker Tour when they renamed the WPT Champions Cup after him, with each new WPT champion earning their name on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

Mike worked, in his own words, in “the best two jobs in poker” with partypoker and WPT and continued to represent and support the idea of making poker fair and appealing to the masses and to prove the poker dream is still alive. We at partypoker and the wider poker world will always be grateful for his contribution and dedication to the game.

As Mike would say, “May all of your cards be live and may all of your pots be monsters”.
