The first of two starting flights in the $3,200 buy-in WPT #04 6-Max Championship<\/strong><\/a> is done and dusted after the 434 starters were whittled down to a more manageable 73 after 18 levels of intense short-handed action.<\/p>\n

A whole host of the game\u2019s elite players bought in hoping to become a WPT champion and bag themselves a massive prize in the process. Greece\u2019s Christos Xanthopoulos<\/strong> goes down in the history books as the Day 1A chip leader after turning his 100,000 starting stack into 1,695,885.<\/p>\n

Xanthopoulos has done his chances of glory no harm at all by getting off to a lightning-quick start in this $3 million guaranteed event. There\u2019s still a long way to go before he can call himself a champion, especially when you take a look at the chasing pack.<\/p>\n

Former WSOP Main Event finalists Nick Marchington<\/strong> bagged up 1,534,487 chips and currently occupies second place on the overnight chip counts. Marchington is a superb player who usually specialises in cash games but is a dab hand at MTTs too. He\u2019s definitely one to watch now he\u2019s deep stacked.<\/p>\n

Just behind Marchington is Steve O\u2019Dwyer<\/strong> and Malta-based grinder Pim Gieles<\/strong>. Neither of these players needs any introduction because they\u2019ve been crushing tournaments for several years, the latter even chopped the 2019 MILLIONS Online<\/a> for more than $2 million!<\/p>\n

Also in the top 10 Day 1A chip counts is Jiachen Gong<\/strong> who finished seventh in the 8-Max Championship<\/a> for $61,171. Former WSOP Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox<\/strong> is also in the overnight top 10 courtesy of his 1,083,507 stack.<\/p>\n

Plenty of other big names stamped their Day 2 tickets at the first attempt.<\/p>\n

Irish star Dara O\u2019Kearney<\/strong> finds himself 11th in chips with 1,012,156 betting tokens in his stack. Fifth-place finisher in the 8-Max event, Shyngis Satubayev<\/strong> returns with 733,702 chips, while Dimitar Danchev<\/strong> progressed with 676,675 chips.<\/p>\n

Team partypoker\u2019s Patrick Leonard<\/strong><\/a> (599,584), Matthew Staples<\/strong><\/a> (482,219), and Jason Koon<\/strong><\/a> (317,409), Daniel Dvoress<\/strong><\/a> (465,430), Lars Kamphues<\/strong> (457,880), Alex Foxen<\/strong> (423,928), Kahle Burns<\/strong> (350,278), and Ryan Riess<\/strong> (150,251) are some other names to look out for on Day 2.<\/p>\n

Day 1B shuffles up and deal at 20:00 CEST on August 9 and we\u2019re expecting a bumper crowd. Team partypoker\u2019s Renato Nomura<\/strong><\/a> and Roberto Romanello<\/strong><\/a> are guaranteed to play, as is Triple Crown chasing Ognyan Dimov<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d also expect some of the Day 1A casualties to fire another bullet at this event, including Team partypoker\u2019s Josip Simunic<\/strong><\/a> who busted in 75th place on the first flight.<\/p>\n
