James Rann Scoops Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British professional poker players <strong>Simon Deadman<\/strong> and <strong>James Rann<\/strong> both warmed up for this weekend\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/wpt-world-online-championship\/schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WPT 6-Max Championship<\/strong><\/a> in some style by taking down a WPT Knockout side event on August 6.<\/p>\n<h2>WPT Knockout: $100K Gtd [1-Day Event]<\/h2>\n<p>Deadman was one of 271 entrants in the <strong>$530 buy-in WPT Knockout<\/strong>, a one-day tournament with $100,000 guaranteed. A prize pool of $135,500 was created and half went onto the heads of all the players with the remaining 50% being shared among the top 40 finishers.<\/p>\n<p>With bounties included, the least any of the eight finalists could win was $2,421. This went to Austria\u2019s <strong>Viktor Zsemlye<\/strong>. The Austrian was joined on the rail first by <strong>Guntis Aleskins<\/strong> then Brazilian <strong>Victor Bergara<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth-place and a combined prize worth $7,127 went to <strong>Gytis Lazaununkas<\/strong> before UK-based Romania star <strong>Alexandru Papazian<\/strong> collected a combined $8,690 when he busted in fourth.<\/p>\n<p>The penultimate elimination of the tournament was that of <strong>Josh McCully<\/strong> who played all the way over in New Zealand. McCully walked away with $9,244.<\/p>\n<p>McCully\u2019s exit left Deadman and <strong>Santtu Ojala<\/strong> heads-up for the title. Rann defeated Lithuania\u2019s <strong>TB<\/strong> to pad his partypoker bankroll with a combined prize worth $9,121, all for a $55 buy-in! TB secured a $6,194 consolation prize.<\/p>\n<p>Ran came ever so close to becoming a WPT champion back in 2019 when he finished third in the <strong>$3,300 WPT UK Main Event<\/strong> at Dusk Till Dawn. That netted Rann $168,500, the second-largest prize of his live career.
