{"id":88959,"date":"2020-07-21T10:45:57","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T10:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog?p=88959"},"modified":"2021-10-07T13:56:19","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T13:56:19","slug":"kotoviezy-and-bicknell-excel-in-wpt-opener-at-wptwoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/kotoviezy-and-bicknell-excel-in-wpt-opener-at-wptwoc.html","title":{"rendered":"Kotoviezy and Bicknell Excel in WPT Opener at WPTWOC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What an incredible day of poker we enjoyed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/the-100m-gtd-wptwoc-a-poker-festival-how-it-should-be.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WPT World Online Championships (WPTWOC)<\/strong><\/a> on July 20 with players from around the world padding their bankrolls with massive prizes and the first Championship Events reaching their final tables.<\/p>\n<p>Two members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/p\/team-partypoker\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Team partypoker<\/a> will look back on the day fondly thanks to excelling in the <strong>$1 million guaranteed WPT Opener<\/strong> and winning a combined $138,050 between them.<\/p>\n<h2>WPT Opener Final Day: $1M Gtd<\/h2>\n<p>Team partypoker\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/p\/team-partypoker\/day-kotoviezy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Day Kotoviezy<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Kristen Bicknell<\/strong> came agonisingly close to taking down the $1,050 edition of the WPT Opener on July 20. Some 124 players, from the 962 starters, returned to the action for the final day knowing only the top 120 were paid.<\/p>\n<p>Austria\u2019s <strong>Stefan Jedlicka<\/strong> was the unfortunate soul who burst the money bubble, falling in 121st place. Jedlicka\u2019s demise paved the way for the likes of <strong>Jon Van Fleet<\/strong>, <strong>Jason Wheeler<\/strong>, <strong>Chance Kornuth<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/p\/team-partypoker\/anatoly-filatov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Anatoly Filatov<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/p\/team-partypoker\/roberto-romanello\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Roberto Romanello<\/strong><\/a> to bank some cash.<\/p>\n<p>Two more Team partypoker stars went deep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/en\/p\/team-partypoker\/patrick-leonard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Patrick Leonard<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s tournament ended in 19th place while <strong>Matthew Staples<\/strong> busted in 16th place, leaving Kotoviezy and Bicknell to represent the orange diamond.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-88966\" src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/44221375365_a320ca8944_k1-600x287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/44221375365_a320ca8944_k1-300x144@2x.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/44221375365_a320ca8944_k1-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/44221375365_a320ca8944_k1-702x336.jpg 702w, https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/44221375365_a320ca8944_k1.jpg 1078w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both navigated their way to the final table and locked up $16,450 as a result. That sum continued increasing as <strong>Sergey Konovalov<\/strong>, <strong>Leonard Maue<\/strong> and <strong>Francisco Correia<\/strong> fell by the wayside. Then came the demise of <strong>Matas Cimbolas<\/strong>, a former WPT Main Event champion. Cimbolas fell in fifth for $39,500.<\/p>\n<p>The first of our heroines, Bicknell, crashed out in fourth-place. The Canadian superstar banked $56,000 for her deep run. Kotoviezy joined Bicknell on the sidelines when she ran out of steam in third place, a finish good for $82,000.<\/p>\n<p>Kotoviezy\u2019s exit left British high stakes pro <strong>Scott Margereson<\/strong> and Malta\u2019s <strong>Gabriele Lepore<\/strong> to fight it out for the title. The Dutch grinder defeated Brazil\u2019s <strong>Alex Mariano<\/strong> Machado heads-up to secure the win, leaving the runner-up to scoop a still-impressive $55,523.<\/p>\n<p>Brazilians made up three of the eight finalists. That\u2019s exactly what Germany\u2019s <strong>Karl Jasmen Dick<\/strong> did by triumphing in the <strong>WPT Opener Micro<\/strong> tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Dick did his chances of securing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/an-incredible-100k-will-be-won-in-the-wpt-online-leaderboards.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WPT Rising Star leaderboard<\/strong><\/a> prize no harm by topping a bumper field and banking the tournament\u2019s largest prize. The Russian star loves high roller events so it was no surprise to see his name at the top of the payouts in the $10,300 WPT High Roller Opener tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Ninety-five of the world\u2019s best players bought in and fought it out for a share of the $1 million kitty. Two of our players, <strong>Mikita Badziakouski<\/strong> and <strong>Kristen Bicknell<\/strong> played their way into the money. Bicknell busted in 12th for $25,000 with Badziakouski falling in 10th for a $30,000 score.<\/p>\n<p>The final table read like a who\u2019s who of the poker world. Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/jon-van-fleet-wins-5-million-guaranteed-millions-online-event.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MILLIONS Online champion <strong>Jon Van Fleet<\/strong><\/a> was the first casualty; eighth-place weighed in at $40,000. Van Fleet gained some company on the rail in the shape of <strong>Aliaksandr Hirs<\/strong> and <strong>Sergi Reixach<\/strong> before reigning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/brazils-pablo-brito-silva-wins-2020-irish-open-main-event.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Irish Open Online Main Event champion <strong>Pablo Brito Silva<\/strong><\/a> crashed out in fifth for $70,000.<\/p>\n<p>Hungarian genius <strong>Laszlo Bujtas<\/strong>\u2019 tournament ended abruptly in fourth for $90,000, the last five-figure haul of the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sergio Aido<\/strong> bust in third for $126,500 which left Martirosian and <strong>Pascal Hartmann<\/strong> to lock horns one-on-one for the title. The difference between first and second place was $71,500 but no deal was struck. Some 187 players made it through to the final day and Bicknell finished in second place, a result worth a massive $157,350.<\/p>\n<p>Estonian pro <strong>Aleksejs Ponakovs<\/strong> was the only player who outlasted Bicknell. UK-based Frenchman <strong>Paul Tedeschi<\/strong> is the man to catch in the race for the first title and the $124,703 top prize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dan Shak<\/strong>, <strong>Erik Dahlberg<\/strong>, <strong>Joao Vieira<\/strong>, <strong>Anssi Kinttala<\/strong>, <strong>Guilherme Decort<\/strong> and <strong>Ozenc Demir<\/strong> make up the final table but 100% are not there to simply make up the numbers and will all have a major say in where the title ends up.<\/p>\n<p>You can watch all the action from this event from 21:00 CET on July 21.
