The 2020 Irish Open<\/strong><\/a> continued on April 8 and what a fantastic day of poker it was. The \u20ac1 million guaranteed Irish Open Main Event<\/strong>\u2019s first starting flight attracted a field of 831, meaning \u20ac831,000 is already in the prize pool with three more Day 1s to go!<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Philipp Krist<\/strong> started his quest for Irish Open glory in style. Krist finished Day 1A of the Main Event with a tournament-leading 328,011 chips. Robert Bickley<\/strong> of the United Kingdom was the only other player to bag up more than 300,000 chips at the close of play.<\/p>\n

A trio of stellar names also bagged up top 10 stacks. Calvin Anderson<\/strong> (222,410) is one of the most respected and feared tournament players of his generation. He finished eighth on Day 1A.<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s Mark Radoja<\/strong> (195,466) and the UK\u2019s Ben Farrell<\/strong> (192,570) finished with enough chips to be ninth and tenth-place at the end of the first flight.<\/p>\n

These included Mustapha Kanit<\/strong>, Jason Wheeler<\/strong>, Niall Farrell<\/strong><\/a>, former Irish Open Main Event champion Griffin Benger<\/strong>, our very own Kristen Bicknell<\/strong><\/a>, Marvin Rettenmaier<\/strong>, Sami Kelopuro<\/strong> and many more!<\/p>\n

Joao Vieira Wins \u20ac2K High Roller<\/h2>\n

Joao Vieira<\/strong> came out on top of a 154-strong field in the \u20ac2,100 High Roller event to walk away with \u20ac70,809 and the title of champion.<\/p>\n

Vieira overcame a talented final table on his way to victory. Swedish legend Simon Mattsson<\/strong> was the first player to bust from the final table, his eighth-place finish netting him \u20ac9,240.<\/p>\n

Finnish superstar Juha Helppi<\/strong> fell in seventh before Guntis Aleskins<\/strong> and Elliot Smith<\/strong> crashed out to leave only four players in the hunt for the title. Those four became three when Wilhelm Isaak<\/strong> busted and scooped \u20ac26,180.<\/p>\n

Heads-up was set when Aaron Vanblarcum<\/strong> fell by the wayside in third, a result worth \u20ac36,960.<\/p>\n

Vieira and Simon Higgins<\/strong> locked horns heads-up in a battle for the lion\u2019s share of the prize pool. No deal was struck despite there being a \u20ac20,000 difference between first and second place. This meant Higgins had to make do with a \u20ac50,820 consolation prize when Vieira defeated him, still a massive score for a Wednesday night!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
