The leaderboards are such exceptional value that players from around the world dedicate their entire week to trying to secure the top prizes.

One man did more than that. Finnish pro “Myshelov35” has won the $2.50/$5 No-Limit Hold’em leaderboard twice in successive weeks. This means, in addition to his cashback and any profits from his grind, Myshelov35 has won $20,000 from this promotion in the space of 14-days!

Who is Myshelov35 and what makes him tick?

“I am a 27-year-old poker pro from Helsinki, Finland who loves with my girlfriend and our two beautiful dogs. I’ve played poker professionally since 2013. I discovered poker when I was around 15-years-old because two of my older friends were already playing. I started watching High Stakes Poker and many other poker shows before starting to grind micro and small stakes No-Limit Hold’em.”

Myshelov35 no longer plays poker for small stakes, he spends his time at the partypoker cash game tables playing anything from $1/$2 up to $5/$10. Recently, due to the leaderboards, you’ll find him battling it out in the $2.50/$5 games.

“The leaderboard promotion is fantastic. There are a lot of new players in the games and those games run much better at the moment. In my opinion, it’s a pretty good situation.”

Cash game players will tell you that liquidity is king when it comes to their grind. Having $1 million guaranteed again in April is attracting players in droves. This, in turn, is allowing players to get their grind on whenever they wish.

Setting Out To Win The Leaderboards

“I started to put in more volume after I heard about this promotion and I have played a lot of hours since then. My goal is to win the leaderboard when I play my normal week, but it’s pretty hard to sustain such high volume so I’ll have to have some rest weeks too, hahaha!”

Keeping a work-life balance is important when you’re playing so much poker. Myshelov35 does this by keeping things simple. He does some sports and fitness during the day when he plans to enter “grind mode” and then hits the partypoker tables in the evening.

Myshelov35 is being sensible with the extra $20,000 he’s won from the Cash Game Leaderboards. Some is being put into his savings with the rest padding his bankroll. The Finn lists good bankroll management as one of the key skills you need to develop as a poker player.

“The games are pretty tough these days and it’s not as easy to be a winning player. You need to adopt a solid but advanced playing style and follow good bankroll management.”

It’s not all about playing poker, you need hard work away from the virtual felt too.

“You should work hard on and off the tables. Get to know the solvers etc but remember that those are not the whole answer. Get to know your opponents and how the players at your stakes play. Make notes on what is working and what is not. Finally, discuss hands with your friends and try to always improve from the mistakes you make.”

It’s certainly working for Myshelov35, make those tips work for you.

Amazingly, the flying Finn is currently in second-place in this week’s $2.50/$5 NLHE leaderboard; the man is a machine!
