With almost $16.3 million in live and online poker tournament winnings, Canada\u2019s Mike \u201cTimex\u201d McDonald is one of the most-respected and feared poker players on the planet.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, McDonald won his first tournament on home soil when he topped a field of 53 entrants in the $10,300 partypoker<\/a> Million North America High Roller, a result that netted the popular grinder $200,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Twenty-three players made it through to Day 2, and another four players entered late, but only the final six would receive any prize money for the efforts.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the day, such luminaries as partypoker ambassador Sam Trickett, partypoker LIVE President John Duthie, Pascal Lefrancois, Xuan Liu, the UK\u2019s Toby Lewis, Sam Chartier, and Jason Koon fell by the wayside.<\/p>\n

It was Ryan Yu who was the unfortunate soul to burst the money bubble. Yu pushed all-in for 178,000 chips at the 8,000\/16,000\/2,000a level with and Mike McDonald woke up with and made the call. A final board reading bust Yu in seventh-place and locked up at least $20,000 for the remaining six players.<\/p>\n

Vishal Singh Maini was the first casualty inside the money places when his lost to the of Sorel Mizzi when the latter hit a runner-runner flush. Then Benoit Galland crashed out in fifth-place at the hands of McDonald.<\/p>\n

McDonald raised to 35,000 from under the gun and Galland called on the button. McDonald then check-called a 33,000 bet on the flop before check-calling a 68,000 vet on the turn. McDonald checked again on the river, Galland bet 113,000 and McDonald check-raised to 400,000. Galland quickly moved all-in for 663,000 and McDonald called, turning over as he did so. Galland showed and his tournament was over.<\/p>\n

Roberto Romanello finished in fourth place<\/p><\/div>\n

Fourth-place went to partypoker ambassador Roberto Romanello. Marc-Olivier Carpentier-Perrault opened to 75,000 at the 12,000\/24,000\/3,000a level and then called when Romanello three-bet all-in for 747,000 in total. Romanello showed and Perrault . Neither player\u2019s hand improved by the river and Romanello was gone.<\/p>\n

The tournament moved into the heads-up stage when Mizzi bust at the hands of Perrault. McDonald opened to twice the big blind to 80,000, Perrault three-bet to 315,000 from the small blind and Mizzi moved all-in for 704,000. McDonald mucked, but Perrault called. It was of Perrault versus the of Mizzi. A final board reading was enough to bust Mizzi in third-place.<\/p>\n

Eventually, it was McDonald who emerged victorious. The final hand saw the players go to the board and McDonald check-raise Perrault\u2019s 150,000 bet to 500,000. Perrault called. The river was the and McDonald led for 800,000. Perrault went into the tank before emerging with a 1.9 million all-in bet, which McDonald called. Perrault held for a full house, threes full of fours, but McDonald was holding the for sixes full of threes and became the\u00a0partypoker Million North America High Roller champion.<\/p>\n

Who Will Become a Millionaire?<\/h3>\n

The CAD$5 million guaranteed partypoker Million North America Main Event is nearing its conclusion because only 37 players remain in the hunt for the title going into Day 4. The returning players are guaranteed CAD$30,000 but with CAD$1 million guaranteed for the winner, nobody will want to get their hands on the five-figure score.<\/p>\n
