As players lost their stacks and the number of surviving players continued to fall, the money bubble loomed for the 63 players with chips in front of them.<\/p>\n<p>Then at 4:54 p.m. on May 1, Stephen Ward raised to 18,000 from under the gun with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ac.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qs.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> and Stuart Reale called on the button with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ts.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/td.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">. Ward made a continuation bet of 18,000 on the <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/6d.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/5s.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qd.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> flop and Reale called. The turn was the <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/th.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">, Ward moved all-in for 94,000 and was quickly called by Reale. The <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qc.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> improved Ward to trip queens but they were an expensive second-best hand because Reale\u2019s set of tens was now a full house.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44413\" style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44413\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-44413 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/34001199130_a984f4c859_k-570x356.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Prix Dublin\" width=\"570\" height=\"356\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-44413\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">German Popov&#8217;s vacant seat<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ward\u2019s exit in 63rd place locked up \u20ac600 for the active players, including online qualifier German Popov who couldn\u2019t make the trip from his native Russia to Ireland so his 147,600 stack was in play all day without him being present. A brutal hand that saw Kevin O\u2019Malley\u2019s set of seven beaten by the set of eights in the hand of Thomas Fitzgerald.<\/p>\n<p>A short while later, Peter O\u2019Dowd and Dave Masters got into a preflop raising war that resulted in O\u2019Dowd calling off his stack with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ah.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/kc.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> and finding himself up against the dominated <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ad.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/5s.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">. Despite being a healthy favourite preflop, by the river the <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/6d.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qd.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/8d.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/td.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qc.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> board had four-flushed and Masters sent O\u2019Dowd to the rail.<\/p>\n<p>Six-handed play lasted 40-minutes and ended with David Crilly\u2019s <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ah.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qd.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> going to battle preflop with Fitzgerald\u2019s <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/kh.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/qc.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">. Fitzgerald was preparing to hand over a significant portion of his chip stack until the king of diamonds appeared on the river to bust Crilly.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining five players headed onto a break and returned to discuss a deal for the remaining prize pool. Any deal had to be based around ICM and leave 10 percent for the eventual champion. Fitzgerald, the overwhelming chip leader at the time, turned down the deal and play resumed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44415\" style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44415\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-44415 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/34010354260_ea793889ca_z-570x356.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Prix Dublin\" width=\"570\" height=\"356\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-44415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grand Prix Dublin<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Douglas Murphy was the next player eliminated when his pocket tens lost to the lowly fours in the hand of Masters courtesy of a third four on the flop, then Fitzgerald crashed out when Masters\u2019 ace-ten came from behind, thanks to a ten on the turn, to crack the ace-queen in Fitzgerald\u2019s hand. It was a superb result for Fitzgerald who was the third-place finisher in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/niall-mcaree-wins-grand-prix-cork-for-e25000.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand Prix Cork<\/a> back in February.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzgerald\u2019s seat hadn\u2019t even gone cold when John Hanaphy bust in third-place. Hanaphy\u2019s king-jack couldn\u2019t get there against the ace-seven of Macari and he headed to the sidelines with bank a cool \u20ac14,000.<\/p>\n<p>Macari and Masters, agreed to a deal that saw the former lock up \u20ac26,310, the latter \u20ac24,095 and which left the trophy and \u20ac5,595 for the eventual winner.<\/p>\n<p>A superb, intense heads-up battle ensued and just as the clocks flicked around to 4:46 a.m. on May 2, Masters found himself all-in with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ad.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/2s.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> against Macari\u2019s <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ac.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/9d.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">.
