If you watch the televised World Poker Tour broadcasts you will no doubt be familiar with the pairing of poker legend and partypoker ambassador Mike Sexton and Vince van Patten giving their expert opinion on the action.<\/p>\n

Tune into the WPT Montreal Main Event show when it airs in 2017 and Sexton will be missing from the studio because after joining 647 players in the tournament, Sexton came out on top and won the whole shebang for C$425,980!<\/p>\n

The final table started with Sexton holding the chip lead, but with each of the other five final table members reaching the big stage on merit and each being talented tournament players, victory for Sexton was far from certain.<\/p>\n

Twenty hands into the final day\u2019s play, Jake Schwartz moved all in for 695,000 with from the small blind and Nadir Lalji called in the big blind with . The dealer spread the board and Schwartz became the first casualty of the day.<\/p>\n

Thirty-one hands after Schwartz\u2019s demise, Sexton raised to 250,000 and then instantly called when Ema Zajmovic three-bet all-in from the button for 2,065,000. Zajmovic turned over and was in a whole world of trouble against Sexton\u2019s . A nine-high board reading , condemning Zajmovic to fifth place.<\/p>\n

Fourth-place went to Ilan Boujenah who, like Zajmovic, ran into pocket aces. Benny Chen completed the 150,000 small blind and snap-called when Boujenah raised all in for 1,325,000 from the big blind. Boujenah showed and Chen the . Chen flopped a set before hitting a full house when the five community cards fell .<\/p>\n

Sexton then sent Lalji to the rail in third place. From the small blind, Sexton raised to 375,000 with , Lalji raised all in for 2,200,000 with and Sexton called. The flop gifted Sexton a set and when the turn was followed into view by the river it was game over for Lalji.<\/p>\n

Chen and Sexton locked horns heads-up with Chen leading by 10,575,000 chips to 8,875,000, but then extending his lead to almost 10-to-1 at one point. Sexton used all of his vast knowledge and experience to claw his way back into contention, and on the 158th hand of heads up play, Chen raised all in for 8,150,000 with and Sexton quickly called with . Chen flopped a gutshot straight but Sexton a set as the first three community cards fell .The turn failed to improve Chen, and the river sent Chen to the rail, crowning Sexton as the WPT Montreal champion, the legend\u2019s first WPT title.<\/p>\n

$15,000 of Sexton\u2019s prize money is in the form of a seat to the WPT Tournament of Champions which is quite fitting as Sexton created poker\u2019s original Tournament of Champions back in 1999.<\/p>\n
