{"id":38983,"date":"2014-12-11T12:59:02","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T11:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/?p=38983"},"modified":"2021-06-29T09:16:47","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T09:16:47","slug":"introducing-squeeze-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/introducing-squeeze-play.html","title":{"rendered":"Introducing The Squeeze Play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re new to poker, adding the squeeze play to your preflop arsenal is a very good idea thanks to it being a powerful move if executed correctly.<\/p>\n<p>The squeeze play was one used by professional poker players for years, but was introduced to the masses by <strong>Dan Harrington<\/strong> in his fabulous <em>Harrington On Hold&#8217;em<\/em> series of strategy books.<\/p>\n<p>In Harrington&#8217;s now famous hand, <strong>Josh Arieh<\/strong> raised to 225,000 with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/kh.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/9s.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"> and <strong>Greg Raymer<\/strong> called with <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/ac.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/2c.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">. Dan Harrington was on the button and had been dealt the lowly <img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/6h.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/handy-cards\/cards\/2d.gif\" class=\"handy-cards\" width=\"25\" height=\"15\">, which on the surface looked like an instant fold, but Harrington had other ideas and he raised &#8212; used the squeeze play &#8212; to 1,200,000. Both Arieh and Raymer eventually folded and Harrington scooped a decent pot.<\/p>\n<p>While to some Harrington&#8217;s move may seem reckless, it was actually well thought through. Arieh is known for raising with a wide range of hands and Raymer is an aggressive player who would probably have raised had he been dealt a premium hand.
