The 2014 partypoker WPT UK Main Event came to a thrilling conclusion on the night of November 23 and when the dust had settled at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham it was Matas Cimbolas<\/strong> who emerged victorious and claimed the coveted trophy and \u00a3200,000 in prize money.<\/p>\n

Cimbolas went into the six-handed final table holding a commanding chip lead, but he was pushed all the way before snatching victory from the talented British professional Ben Warrington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Patrick Leonard: Sixth place for \u00a339,500<\/p><\/div>\n

The players were still feeling each other out when a relative cooler of a hand claimed the tournament life of the in-form Patrick Leonard<\/strong>. Warrington made it 65,000 to play and was called by Cimbolas on the button and Leonard in the big blind.<\/p>\n

Leonard led for 104,000 on the flop and only Warrington called. The turn brought the into play and Leonard moved all-in. Warrington made the call and flipped the on their backs for middle set, crushing the of Leonard. The river was the and Leonard, a former world number one in the online poker rankings, busted in sixth place, adding \u00a339,500 to the \u00a362,000 he won for finishing second in the High Roller at the start of the WPT UK festival.<\/p>\n

Phillip Mighall: Fifth place for \u00a348,000<\/p><\/div>\n

Next to fall, some two hours after Leonard’s exit, was Phillip Mighall<\/strong> who became another of Warrington’s victims. Warrington raised to 110,000 and quickly called when Mighall three-bet all-in for 275,000 in total. Mighall showed and was flipping against the of his talented opponent. The flop pushed Warrington in the lead and he stayed there through the turn and river, sending Mighall to the rail and leaving only four players in contention for the title.<\/p>\n

Antoine Saout: Fourth place for \u00a367,000<\/p><\/div>\n

Those four became three with the elimination of Antoine Saout<\/strong>. Again, it was Warrington who sent a player to the rail, setting Saout all in from the small blind for his last 15 big blinds with and Saout calling with . Neither player improved on the board, Warrington’s seven-kicker player and Saout, who finished third in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, busted in fourth place in Nottingham.<\/p>\n

Tamer Kamel: Third place for \u00a392,000<\/p><\/div>\n

The final three players locked horns for the best part of three hours before Tamer Kamel<\/strong> lost a crucial coinflip against the man-of-the-moment Warrington.<\/p>\n

Warrington min-raised to 160,000 from the button, Cimbolas folded from the small blind and Kamel re-raised all-in for a shade over one million chips. Warrington called with to discover Kamel was slightly behind with his .<\/p>\n

The flop gifted Warrington a set, although the turn meant Kamel could catch a spade on the river to stay in the tournament. However, the river wasn’t a spade, it was the , improving Warrington to an unnecessary full house and sending the tournament heads-up.<\/p>\n

Warrington started the heads-up battle holding a 7,475,000 to 3,150,000 chip lead, a lead that was almost immediately extended. Cimbolas looked set to become the runner-up until he managed to catch a five on the turn of the board to double up with versus Warrington’s dominating .<\/p>\n

That hand pushed Cimbolas’ stack back to 3,300,000 and gave him a massive confidence boost. From that point on Cimbolas looked like a different player and started to win the more meaningful pots, drew level in chips then started to forge a gap between himself and Warrington.<\/p>\n

Ben Warrington: Second place for \u00a3140,000<\/p><\/div>\n

What turned out to be the final hand of this fantastic tournament saw Warrington move all-in for 3,000,000 chips (15 big blinds) with and Cimbolas make the call with . The flop was no help to either player and neither was the . Cimbolas needed to dodge a seven or nine on the river to win, which is what he did when the landed on the river to bust Warrington and crown Cimbolas as the 2014 partypoker WPT UK Main Event champion.<\/p>\n

Part of Cimbolas’ \u00a3200,000 haul includes a seat in the WPT World Championships at Borgata<\/strong> in April 2015 and judging by this performance the London-based Lithuanian should continue to impress over in the United States.<\/p>\n
