Clearly, your game will improve if you take advantage of what the authors of those books aim to teach you. But here\u2019s the thing:<\/p>\n<p>In the course of my merry adventures as a player, I\u2019ve come to find that the most valuable poker lessons I\u2019ve ever learned weren\u2019t found in those books gathering dust on my shelf. \u00a0If you pay attention, you\u2019ll find that you can gain an infinite amount of knowledge simply by listening to bits of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partypoker.com\/blog\/en\/mike-sexton-6-tips-about-learning-to-play-your-position-well-in-poker.html\"><strong>off-the-cuff wisdom from the likes of Mike Sexton<\/strong><\/a> or random players you run into during your poker sessions. \u00a0These pieces of advice are usually not easily forgotten, and will stay with you for life.<\/p>\n<p>The best guidance I\u2019ve personally received is the first on the list below, and \u00a0followed by 9 other priceless pieces of advice that you\u2019ll never find in any poker book. \u00a0Some of these may make you laugh, because they ARE funny! Do yourself a favor, though, and take note of their message.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See that watch to your left, [the one with all those diamonds]? The bigger the watch, the bigger your value bet needs to be. \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/OnAFoldDraw\">Travis Williams<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If a nit who remembers JFK check-raises a dry flop, he has a set. \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Grange95\">Michael Mock<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t play against people nicknamed after a city. \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/jessejames3ball\">Erik Jensen<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If a fat guy puts in a raise while he\u2019s eating, he\u2019s got a monster. \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tennesseejc\">Jason Corlew<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If a player is addressed by his profession \u2013 \u201cJoe The Lawyer\u201d, \u201cDoctor Scott\u201d, \u201cJim the Jeweler\u201d, for example\u2026 \u00a0play as frequently and as big as possible with said individual. \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/burrrrrberry\">Melissa Burr<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Ask $1\/$2 players if they are on the $2\/$5 list.
