We didn’t do a count of how many women entered this event, but today started with 14 women still alive in a field of 186 — 7.5% of the field.

Today, while the field has diminished to 114 players, there are still 10 women playing, which represents 8.7%.

We don’t know if an unusually high number of women entered this tournament or if the women who did enter are performing above their statistical expectations. Either way, it’s pretty notable, and it’s a good sign to see so many women this deep in a major tournament.

Here are the women still in the field:

Annie Duke – 145,000

Kataneh Hamidi – 139,000

Vanessa Rousso – 117,500

Erica Schoenberg – 117,000

Mari Lou Morelli – 116,000

Lauren Kling – 72,000

Jolyne Thompson – 59,000

Lisa Hamilton – 34,000

Dee Luong – 34,000

Patti Sodja – 16,000

18.00

Negreanu is still in the top ten in chips.
