Phil Hellmuth leads as Level 1 draws to a close, his 540,000 chips putting him out in front. Most of Hellmuth\u2019s additional chips used to belong to Marvin Rettenmaier, check out the \u201chand of the level\u201d for more details.<\/p>\n

The players chip stacks are as below. The +\/- figure in brackets is their profit\/loss since the end of the last level and the big blind figure is how many they have for the current level. The blind during Level 2 will be 2,000\/4,000.<\/p>\n

    Good level for<\/h3>\n

    Phil Hellmuth<\/strong> – The 13-time WSOP bracelet winner has been his brilliant vocal self, coming out with quotes that only Hellmuth can dream up. He played a pair of aces strangely, flopped a set and got paid off and ended Level 1 as the chip leader. A dream start for Hellmuth and his army of followers.<\/p>\n

    Bad level for<\/h3>\n

    Marvin Rettenmaier<\/strong> – A horrendous start for Rettenmaier after he ran a set of sevens into the set of aces of Hellmuth. Rettenmaier had started well but the Poker Gods were not looking down on him during the hand below.<\/p>\n

    Hand of the level <\/h3>\n

    What a sick hand Phil Hellmuth and Marvin Rettenmaier played out. Hellmuth made the unorthodox play of limping with pocket aces. The action passed to Rettenmaier and he raised to 11,000 with only to see Hellmuth raise to 42,000. Rettenmaier tanked for 90 seconds before carefully placing his calling chips over the betting line.<\/p>\n

    The turn was the improving Rettenmaier to a set but a potentially expensive second best hand. Hellmuth instantly checked the turn. Rettenmaier reached for chips and bet 67,000 into the 87,000 pot. Hellmuth then gave us all the full Hollywood works trying to give the impression that he was agonising over his decision. Eventually, Hellmuth called.<\/p>\n

    The river was the and Hellmuth snap-checked again. Rettenmaier bet again, making it 146,000 to play and Hellmuth snap-called, not raised!<\/p>\n

    This left Rettenmaier with 71,000 chips despite him getting off to a flying start.<\/p>\n
