The latest edition of The Grand<\/strong> is done and dusted, and it is Joel Nystedt<\/strong> who gets to call himself the tournament’s champion, at least for the next seven days. Nystedt came out on top a 106 strong field and reeled in $23,924 of the $105,955 prize pool, a sum far greater than the advertised $75,000 guarantee.<\/p>\n

The final phase, a $1,050 buy-in real-name tournament, shuffled up and dealt on the evening of October 16 and crowned its champion a shade under eight hours after the first cards were dealt.<\/p>\n

Players including Jonathan Proudfoot<\/strong><\/a>, Christian Jeppsson<\/strong><\/a>, Simon Mattsson<\/strong><\/a>, our very own Patrick Leonard<\/strong><\/a> and Yuri Dzivielevski<\/strong><\/a>, Ole Schemion<\/strong><\/a>, Andras Nemeth<\/strong><\/a>, and Benjamin Rolle<\/strong> busted before the money places, the latter popping the money bubble with his 21st place finish.<\/p>\n

The final table was set when Team Online’s Matthew Staples<\/strong><\/a> crashed out in tenth place, a finish good for $2,719.<\/p>\n

Theo Bijaoui<\/strong> was the first of the nine finalists to be relieved of their chips; their ninth-place finish came with $3,106. Next to fall was Ukrainian Vladislav Martynenko<\/strong>, who collected $3,638.<\/p>\n

Leon Sturm<\/strong> ($4,188), Alexander Norden<\/strong> ($4,859), Rodrigo Sirichuk<\/strong> ($5,942), and Belgian Karim Maekelberg<\/strong> ($7,827) were the next casualties. Maekelberg’s untimely demise left only three players in the hunt for the title, all three now guaranteed a five-figure score for their efforts.<\/p>\n

Pedro Garagnani<\/strong> was the first of the final trio to win more than $10,000; his third-place finish resulting in $10,853 hitting his PartyPoker account. The Brazilian’s exit left Joel Nystedt heads-up against Mexico-based Lithuanian star Gediminas Uselis<\/strong>. Nytedt busted his final opponents and received the $23,924 top prize, resigning Uselis to a $15,580 consolation prize.<\/p>\n

Other Weekend Results<\/h2>\n

There was a five-figure prize for “Briatore50”<\/strong> this weekend. They came out on top of a 68-player field in the Super $530<\/strong> and walked away with $11,967, with bounties included. Matthew Staples finished seventh in the same tournament for a $2,008 score.<\/p>\n

In the Super $215<\/strong>, it was “QuiAzarr”<\/strong> who triumphed, navigating their way through 280 opponents to secure a $7,544 top prize. Shout-out also to “AllensFish”<\/strong> whose victory in the Super $320<\/strong> came with $9,219.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Super $55<\/strong> drew in 1,075 PartyPoker players this weekend, and they created a $53,750 prize pool. The popular PKO event<\/a> was taken down by “am2pm”<\/strong> who is now $5,785 richer than they were a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n
