Oliver Hutchins<\/strong> wrote himself into the partypoker LIVE<\/strong> history books in the early hours of April 5 when he took down the inaugural partypoker Players Championship (PPC) Malta Main Event<\/strong><\/a>. Hutchins, who hails from the United Kingdom, bested 847-opponents and returns home with \u20ac74,000 after a heads-up deal with runner-up Damir Savio<\/strong> of Croatia; Savio scooped \u20ac58,000.<\/p>\n

Hutchins\u2019 victory was made all the more sweeter by the fact he won his PPC Malta Main Event seat for $109 in a satellite hosted online at partypoker<\/strong><\/a>. That $109 turned into a poker trip to remember, one with a career-best \u20ac74,000 at the end.<\/p>\n

Day 3 started with 15 players in the hunt for the title. Victor Allain<\/strong> was the first casualty of the final day, with Simone Lombardo<\/strong>, Mariusz Lewoniewski<\/strong>, Lukasz Fraczek<\/strong>, and Andrea Bettini<\/strong> joining Allain on the rail.<\/p>\n

The final table was set when the of Nicolas Plantin<\/strong> lost to the of Savio courtesy of a three on the flop then a wheel on the turn.<\/p>\n

That final table bursting hand gifted Savio the chip lead going into the nine-handed final table where each of the finalists would walk away with no less than \u20ac6,400 for their efforts.<\/p>\n

Everyone with chips in front of them jumped up a payout place when Giuseppe DiBella<\/strong> crashed out in ninth. Federico Petruzzelli<\/strong> opened to 250,000 with and called when DiBella three-bet all-in for 435,000 with what turned out to be . Petruzzelli flopped two pair and turned a boat to reduce the player count by one.<\/p>\n

$11 Satellite Winner Bows Out<\/h2>\n

The finalists gained a little more elbow room when Bradley Gudgeon<\/strong> saw his incredible end in an eighth-place finish worth \u20ac8,000. Savio min-raised to 240,000 under the gun, Gudgeon three-bet all-in for 1,600,000 from the small blind, and Savio quickly called. Savio showed and needed to spike an ace to beat Gudgeon\u2019s . He did exactly that as the board ran , ending Gudgeon\u2019s participation. Gudgeon won his seat in the PPC Malta Main Event for only $11<\/strong>, what an incredible ROI.<\/p>\n

Seventh-place and \u20ac10,000, the first five figure score, went to Federico Cirillo<\/strong> after he lost a coinflip against Savio. Cirillo opened to 330,000 from the button with and called when Savio three-bet all-in with . The flop gave Savio more outs to his overcards, with the turn propelling him into the lead. The confirmed Cirillo\u2019s exit.<\/p>\n

A Double Elimination<\/h2>\n

A double-elimination during the 100,000\/200,000\/200,000a level left only four players in contention to become the PPC Malta champion. Wouter Schuurbiers<\/strong> open-shoved for 1,600,000 with , start-of-the-day chip leader Massimo Rossi<\/strong><\/a> re-shoved with , and Cirillo was all-in after posting the big blind. The five community cards fell to send two players to the rail.<\/p>\n

Despite winning those chips, Rossi was the next players heading to the cashier\u2019s desk. Hutchins doubled through Rossi, and Rossi then committed his last ten big blinds with after Jingchun Yu<\/strong> opened with . Yu called and caught queen on the flop of the board.<\/p>\n

The surviving three players went on a scheduled break only for Yu to bust on the very first hand back. Yu decided to open-shove for 21.4 big blinds from the small blind with and Hutchins looked him up with the dominating . Hutchins\u2019 hand remained true on the run-out.<\/p>\n

Hutchins held a 16,100,000 to 9,400,000 chip lead over Savio going into heads-up. Initially, it looked like Hutchins would get the job done quickly but Savio had other ideas. The heads-up duo went on a scheduled break after almost an hour of one-on-one action and with stacks almost level. They struck a deal while on break that left \u20ac13,000 more for the eventual champion.<\/p>\n

Savio took a brief lead after the deal was confirmed but Hutchins struck back before forging a lead for himself. The final hand occurred during the 400,000\/800,000\/800,000a level when Savio jammed all-in for 5,100,000 and Hutchins called. Savio showed and needed some help to beat Hutchins\u2019 . Help never arrived as the dealer put the onto the felt, busting Savio in second place and leaving Hutchins to become the 2022 PPC Malta Main Event champion.<\/p>\n
