It is not that he logs masses of volume each week, but because he has 20-years experience as a croupier and a dealer. Jay put that experience to good use a couple of weeks ago when he topped Leaderboard 5 of the Legend of the Week ongoing promotion. Jay now has a $1,050 and a $530 Series Ticket nestled safely away in his partypoker account, giving him the opportunity to win big again.

Jay is engaged to “an amazing girl called Jen,” and he used to croupier all over the world as a freelance dealer until some health issues put paid to all the travelling, although Jay still occasionally dips his toes in. As one door closes, another often opens, and Jay used his increased downtime to play more poker.

“It’s why I started playing a bit more. Hopefully, once I get a few more good results, I’ll be able to get sponsored, which would help with my bankroll management!”

Discovering Poker Almost 20 Years Ago

Jay first discovered poker around 2004 at the now-defunct PokerRoom online poker site. He also played online at Ladbrokes, which is where he won a seat to the Poker Million, although Jay didn’t cash because “my inexperience really showed.” Irish legend Donnacha O’Dea emerged victorious in that tournament, defeating the late Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott heads-up for $300,000.

“The I won the first-ever £5 rebuy at the Gutshot Poker Club and got chatting to Roy Houghton who trained me up to deal poker. From there, I’ve dealt in some of the biggest games and to the biggest names and celebrities. I could go on forever about that, but would probably end up boring you!”

Jay topped Leaderboard 5 of the Legend of the Week promotion, the leaderboard where you earn points by playing in the $55 Gladiator and the $55 Masters. it was the former that bore fruit for Jay, although his poker session that day did not go to plan.

“I won the Gladiator that week but at the same time, I busted in 11th place with pocket queens versus ace-five in a $109 PPC Malta event but hey that’s poker. To be honest, the past ten days have been quite rough but those swings are to be expected.”

The Legend of the Week promotion continues to be a major talking point with our players because it opens the door to playing in larger buy-in events that they would not ordinarily be bankrolled for. However, it is other areas of partypoker that keep Jay coming back for more.

Raking In Cashback Payments and MTT Value

“I’m loving the cashback and all the tournament at the moment. Those tournaments have some great value and there are some excellent feeder tournaments. I’ve just won an Irish Open Main Event seat for either $5 or $22, so I’m very happy right now! In addition, the customer care team has always been good with me.”

Jay plans to compete in more live events during 2022 now that live poker is returning with renewed vigour. The live grind begins with a trip to Dublin for the 2022 Irish Open this April.

“This year, I’m hoping to start playing more live events and get a sponsor to take some of the stress away from juggling money, meaning I can concentrate on what I am good at. I’ve been in this game for nearly 20 years now and know most people. I just love the banter and the way poker brings people together, which is why I’ve always loved dealing. I use it as a training and studying tool in addition to teaching new people the game, too.”

Love poker?
