Even though tournament poker is not Dmitry’s core game, he put his $11 ticket to good use, and turned it into $180, before using that score to propel himself to the top of the Legend of the Week leaderboard.

Dmitry has played poker since 2006 when he jumped into a cash game online at partypoker. He has taken the game more seriously over the past couple of years, and is usually found grinding the NL25 ($0.10/$0.25) no-limit hold’em cash games.

Surprisingly, the Russian grinder was not aware of the Legend of the Week promotion until he saw his prizes land in his account!

Mistake Leads To Outright Victory

“I did not know about the Legends of the Week promotion, but received an $11 and $22 ticket for free. I usually play cash games but used the tickets because they were free. I won a small amount, around $180, and decided that I would combine tournaments with my cash games. In the first PKO tournament (The Terminator), I finished seventh, but was very upset because I was the chip leader at one stage and committed ICM suicide against a week player.”

“That hand bothered me all day, and I decided I needed to pay more attention in the latter stages of MTTs. The next day, I won the same tournament! Two days later, I opened the lobby and saw that I had won the leaderboard. I received a $320 and $530 ticket, which I was very happy with.”

Dmitry is full of confidence after his impressive results and is looking forward to playing poker for much higher stakes than he usually plays.

“My mood, of course, is good. I will be happy to play against strong opponents and will try to learn something from them. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Leaderboards Are a Great Motivator

Just as “Rezista” eluded to in her interview last week, Dmitry says the Legend of the Week leaderboards provide motivation to play more and play better.

“I think the action with the leaderboards is a good motivator not to make mistakes, and to play more tournaments. For me, the tournaments included in the leaderboards would be part of my daily schedule.”

Dmitry is still finding his groove in our Daily Legends tournament but already has his favourite. Can you guess what it is?

“I’ve still not familiarised myself with all the tournaments, so I have to say my favourite is the one that I won, the $11 Terminator PKO.”

Jump Into Our Fantastic Daily Legends Tournaments

There is no doubt we will see Dmitry in our Daily Legends in the coming days and weeks; will we see you?
