The 2009 PokerNews Cup got underway in Melbourne on Friday 2nd<\/sup> October at 10 minutes after midday.\u00a0 The Main Event is a\u00a0four day event with\u00a0two starting days and a Day 1B repechage.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The 171 players who opted to start on day 1A included 9 players sporting the PartyPoker banner.\u00a0 The\u00a0nine were made up of\u00a0one of the Australian $3.5K online package winners Jeff Woods and\u00a0six Palladium Lounge members in the form of\u00a0Jason Brown, King Tung Man, Luke Marburg, Matthew Kepitis,Mark Ellis and Peter Ockenden. Stewart Scott, our newly signed Grass Roots player also opted to start day\u00a01A, as did\u00a0Latisha Wenlock one of the\u00a0six players who won their seat through the\u00a0NPL\u2019s offline promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n

It just wasn\u2019t Stewart Scott\u2019s day and having sat for hours seeing very few playable hands he was out (we’ll hear from Stewart\u00a0soon I’m sure).\u00a0 The next to leave was King Tung Man.\u00a0 Everyone else played on until the dinner break when we lost Peter and Mark. <\/span><\/p>\n

Luke Marburg had a strong day but\u00a0had the misfortune of having his pocket jacks cracked by pocket sevens with a\u00a0seven on the river – his stack was seriously compromised and he was unable to recover.\u00a0 Latisha\u2019s stack needed reinforcing before end of play so\u00a0during the final hand when\u00a0there was a raise to 3,000, Latisha pushed all in with her 21,000 chips.\u00a0 Unfortunately the raiser had KK against her 88 and a king on the\u00a0flop\u00a0sealed her fate and she is out.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, through to Day two\u00a0are Jason Brown, Matthew Kepitis and Jeff Woods.<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 1B sees the remaining\u00a0nine online qualifiers,\u00a0five of the NPL seat winners and anybody from day 1A who wishes to buy back in and give it another shot hit the felt. <\/span><\/p>\n
