The 2021 World Cup of Card<\/strong><\/a>s has crowned its first champions of the series. Claus Grether<\/strong> and Kallum Allen<\/strong> can call themselves a poker champion after triumphing in the $320 Quebec Opener<\/strong> and $33 Mini Quebec Opener<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n

Grether Turns $320 Into $23,339<\/h2>\n

WCC #02 Quebec Opener<\/strong> had a $125,000 guarantee on its prize pool but we paid out $180,300 after 601 players bought into the event. Only 91 of those starters made it through to the final day, each locking up at least $333 for their efforts.<\/p>\n

Team partypoker’s Day Kotoviezy<\/strong><\/a>, Jaime Staples<\/strong><\/a>, and Matthew Staples<\/strong> were among those who cashed. As were such luminaries as Upeshka Da Silva<\/strong>, Dominik Nitsche<\/strong><\/a>, Pim Gieles<\/strong>, and Marton Czuczor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Belgium’s Karim Maekelberg<\/strong> was the nine-handed final table’s first casualty; they collected $1,846 with bounties included.<\/p>\n

Paulo Brombim<\/strong>, Alexander Petrov<\/strong>, Julian Selinger<\/strong>, and Tom Kunze<\/strong> then fell by the wayside to leave only four players in the hunt for the title. All eyes were on Swedish legend Niklas Astedt<\/strong><\/a> at this point because, well, he is a beast of a poker tournament player. However, he crashed out in fourth place for a combined $10,291.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Bussieres<\/strong> of Canada could not quite get over the last couple of hurdles and had to make do with a third-place finish. His exit left Grether heads-up against Jonathon Jackson<\/strong> of the United Kingdom. Both players secured more than $12,400 each from the main prize pool, but the bounties were huge at this stage. So larger, in fact, that Grether added another $10,919 to his tally when he defeated Jackson heads-up!<\/p>\n

Allen Walks Away With a Combined $6,394<\/h2>\n

The $33 buy-in Mini Quebec Opener<\/strong> also smashed through its guarantee with $53,400 awarded. British grinder Kallum Allen<\/strong> got his hands on the lion’s share of that pot.<\/p>\n

Allen came out on top of a 1,780-strong field, of which 265 were present and correct on the final day. Jaime Staples<\/strong> was among the Day 2 players but ran out of steam in 134th place.<\/p>\n

At the final table, everyone who finished in fifth place or higher padded their bankrolls with four-figure hauls.<\/p>\n

Guylherme Bettes<\/strong> ($1,189), Luis Ginocchio<\/strong> ($2,101), Mikhail Iulaev<\/strong> ($2,227), and runner-up Gabriel Sborz<\/strong> ($4,047) all gave themselves plenty of ammunition for the rest of the World Cup of Cards festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Allen who was the last player standing, and the recipient of a $6,394 payout.<\/p>\n

Time Is Running Out to Enter the Grand Prix Knockouts<\/h2>\n
