The WPT Montreal Main Event<\/strong> got off to a flying start on January 17 when 482 players exchanged $3,200 for 200,000 chips on Day 1A. The curtain came down on proceedings almost exactly 11-hours later and it was Germany\u2019s Andrei Kriazhev<\/strong> who found themselves at the top of the chip counts.<\/p>\n

Kriazhev bagged up a most impressive 4,739,179 chips at the close of play and has done their chances of becoming a World Poker Tour champion no harm at all. Kriazhev is an unknown quantity but one who cashed in a the \u20ac1,100 No Limit Hold\u2019em Finale<\/strong> event at the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final<\/strong> at Barcelona. He\u2019ll certainly become well known if he continues this form and wins the WPT Montreal Main Event.<\/p>\n

Alexandros Kolonias<\/strong> (lead image), the former WSOP Europe Main Event<\/strong> champion, was the only other player to bag up more than four million chips, 4,121,611 to be exact. Kolonias has more than $3.7 million in live tournament winnings. He\u2019s no slouch in the online poker world either, as is evident by him winning a Poker Masters Online<\/strong><\/a> event last April.<\/p>\n

The rest of the top 10 Day 1A players read like a who\u2019s who of the poker world. Finland\u2019s Norma Nuutinen<\/strong> finished with 3,704,376 chips, enough for fourth place.<\/p>\n

Grayson Ramage<\/strong> always performs well in our big events. He was the runner-up of the 2020 Caribbean Poker Party Main Event<\/strong><\/a> and collected $631,636. Now he\u2019s on course for a deep run in the WPT Montreal Main Event now he\u2019s armed with 3,057,403 chips.<\/p>\n

Also in the top 10 at the close of play were former EPT champion Aliaksei Boika<\/strong> (2,839,608), former WSOP Main Event champion<\/strong> Ryan Riess<\/strong> (2,815,882), and Enrico Camosci<\/strong> (2,738,267).<\/p>\n

They weren\u2019t the only stellar names to punch their Day 2 tickets at the first attempt. Such luminaries as Christian Rudolph<\/strong> (2,197,702), Mark Radoja<\/strong> (2,082,454), Ole Schemion<\/strong> (1,630,711), Pablo Brito Silva<\/strong><\/a> (1,408,920), David Peters<\/strong> (871,721), Sam Grafton<\/strong> (674,500), Joao Simao<\/strong> (650,805), and Pim Gieles<\/strong> (234,508) made it through safely.<\/p>\n

Day 1A didn\u2019t exactly go to plan for some of our Team partypoker players. Isaac Haxton<\/strong><\/a>, Mikita Badziakouski<\/strong><\/a>, Patrick Leonard<\/strong><\/a>, Dzmitry Urbanovich<\/strong>, Kristen Bicknell<\/strong>, Matthew Staples<\/strong>, Jaime Staples<\/strong><\/a>, and Day Kotoviezy<\/strong><\/a> all busting out before play concluded.<\/p>\n

All those who busted on Day 1A have another bite of the juicy cherry on January 24 when Day 1B kicks off. Cards are in the air from 19:05 GMT and it costs $3,200 to enter, unless you manage to win your way into it.<\/p>\n
