The 2020 Irish Poker Masters<\/strong><\/a> got underway over the weekend and it\u2019s fair to say it is off to a flying start. Six partypoker players became champions plus the first of two Main Event flights is done and dusted.<\/p>\n

Some 671 players turned out for Day 1A of the \u20ac1 million guaranteed Irish Poker Masters Main Event<\/strong>, meaning more than 67% of the guarantee has already been generated.<\/p>\n

Team partypoker\u2019s Ludovic Geilich<\/strong><\/a> shone brightly on the first flight, bagging up 3,610,000 chips at the close of play, enough for fourth place as things stand right now.<\/p>\n

Geilich knows there is a long way to go in this tournament so can\u2019t afford to take his foot off the gas. He has, however, put himself in a superb position for a deep run in this prestigious event.<\/p>\n

Brazil\u2019s Pedro Padilha Chaves<\/strong> claimed the Day 1A chip lead courtesy of accumulating 5,193,830 chips. The Brazilian was the only player to finish with more than five million chips.<\/p>\n

The Swedish duo of Anton Siden<\/strong> and Joakim Andersson<\/strong> ended their flight with more chips than Geilich. Siden returns to the action armed with 4,386,817 chips with Andersson on 4,049,697.<\/p>\n

Plenty of stellar names are among the 101 players who made it through the flight.<\/p>\n

Christian Rudolph<\/strong> (2,409,036), Bruno Volkmann<\/strong> (2,178,390), and Anton Wigg<\/strong> (1,894,042) progressed with top 20 stacks. David Yan<\/strong> (1,708,902), Matthias Eibinger<\/strong><\/a> (1,674,048), Elio Fox<\/strong> (1,455,996), Team Online\u2019s Hristivoje Pavlovic<\/strong><\/a> (1,049,242), Team partypoker\u2019s Roberto Romanello<\/strong><\/a> (750,565), Chris Moorman<\/strong> (523,095), and Marc MacDonnell<\/strong><\/a> (121,009) are also in the hunt.<\/p>\n

Boika Bags The Opener Title<\/h2>\n

A field of 776 entrants in The Opener<\/strong> ensured the \u20ac250,000 guaranteed was blown out of the water with \u20ac388,000 up for grabs. Half that sum went into the main prize pool with the remaining 50% divided up and put on the heads of every entrant.<\/p>\n

Only 116 players made it through to the second day, all of them in the money places. Grinders such as Shawn Buchanan<\/strong>, Anton Wigg<\/strong>, Roberto Romanello<\/strong>, Jon Van Fleet<\/strong><\/a>, Darren Elias<\/strong>, and Toby Lewis<\/strong> padded their bankrolls.<\/p>\n

Joao Vieira<\/strong><\/a> reached yet another major final table but his time there was short-lived. Vieira crashed out in seventh-place for a combined prize of almost \u20ac9,000.<\/p>\n

Dante Fernandes<\/strong> and Goran Mandic<\/strong> were the next casualties before Dutch star Daan Mulders<\/strong> fell by the wayside in fourth-place for a combined \u20ac18,133.<\/p>\n

Georgios Zismopoulos<\/strong> was the third-place finisher, a result worth \u20ac25,033, which left Sergi Koliakov<\/strong> and Aliaksei Boika<\/strong> heads-up. Boika, a former EPT champion, got the job done and his hands on a total prize worth \u20ac44,699 leaving Koliakov to bank a \u20ac34,429 consolation prize.<\/p>\n
