I caught the poker bug at my local pub but now I’m going to the WSOP

Posted by Ellie Knightsbridge in World Series of Poker on June 1, 2011

British player Jaywin111 is one of our latest $14,000 WSOP prize package winners.

Before he heads off to Vegas, he spills the beans on how he secured his seat at the WSOP main event and who he’s looking forward to meeting out there.

What route did you take to the final WSOP Satellite?

I bought into one $75 sub qualifier and I only did that because my bankroll had been swelled with an 11th place finish in the $250k Gte Sunday tourney the week before. I qualified for that in the 50 Seat Frenzy.

Tell us how the final WSOP Satellite went. What were the key moments?

At the mid-point I was one of the chip leaders. I felt like it was pretty much plain sailing until we got down to six handed. The bubble then seemed to last for an eternity but what saw me through was some very selective light three betting from the small blind, which due to a reasonably tight image, worked.

Tell us about your PartyPoker.com story.

I caught the poker bug after playing in my local pub. PartyPoker.com has been my preferred site for five years and I created my bankroll by giving up smoking. I thought to myself, what money do I currently waste that I can use for online poker instead? I haven’t touched a cigarette since May 2007!

After a steady downward ‘learning’ trend for several years, lots of books and drastic lifestyle changes, things started clicking into place about eight months ago.

I particularly like the layout, design and user-friendly nature of PartyPoker.com. The value I get from the points and low buy-in satellites is fantastic.

Tell us how you feel about your Vegas trip.

I’m really looking forward to the trip. I can’t wait to explore the sights and sounds of Vegas with my girlfriend.

I have been to Vegas once – with my mum and brother in 1989! We took a bus from Los Angeles, had dinner and watched the Elvis tribute show at the Hilton. We stayed up all night and took the bus back to LA in the morning.

What do you think about WSOP?

The WSOP main event is the online qualifier’s dream ticket. Moneymaker winning is the obvious pivotal moment, but I’ve seen hours of WSOP coverage over the years.

My only real live tournament experience was the Blackbelt London Live II event at the Victoria casino last month.

Any poker players you would love to meet and play against at WSOP?

Oh too many to mention but I’ll pick a few; Tony G for the table banter, Ian Fraser because I know his brother, Johnny Chan to relive ‘that Rounders moment’, Phil Hellmuth for entertainment value and Gus Hansen because I admire his style of play.

If you want to be there at the WSOP alongside Jaywin111 and some of the biggest poker players in the world, you can win your $14,000 WSOP prize package here.
