WPT London Day 1B Review

Posted by Thomas Baker in WPT London on September 1, 2010

The second day of WPT London played out yesterday at the Palm Beach casino and once again, some compelling poker took place as a host of star names locked horns across the felt with 94 players arriving to take their shot at glory.

Players such as summer bracelet winner Richard Ashby and experienced English pro Neil Channing clashed with the likes of the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year Frank Kassela and online sensation Chris Moorman – guaranteeing some fascinating confrontations.

The early levels were once again dominated by cat and mouse strategy – the 40k starting stacks ensuring that busts were thin on the ground in the opening levels but some notable late registrations arrived to shake up the status quo and they did so with aplomb.

The arrivals of players such as Freddy Deeb and Tony G acted like a bag of rabid cats amongst the pigeons as suddenly what had been an almost bust-free zone saw a plethora of late busts, with blind pressure rising sufficiently to mean players began to take more and more shots at each others’ stacks.

When the seven levels had finally played out, we were left with Priyan de Mel and Richard Ashby atop the chip counts – both with over 200k, where they will join up with the likes of Erik Seidel and PartyPoker’s online qualifier Talal Shakerchi once they meet up with the survivors of Day 1a come the start of play Wednesday 12 p.m.

It will be a battle to the final table as the final 93 players resume and with Phil Ivey and PartyPoker.it Team Pro Giovanni Safina lurking just behind them in the counts, there are many twists and turns guaranteed as the road to the riches and glory of a WPT glory prepares to be walked.
