Some props to a player making a living on Party Poker

Posted by Kara Scott in Kara Scott on February 6, 2011

Hello from London!!

I would like to announce that I am not jet-lagged and right now, that feels like a miracle. I arrived in the UK the day before yesterday and after only 4 hours of sleep was up and raring to go to film some stuff for Party Poker’s website.

I was raring to go at the start of the day, that is. By the end of a nearly 12 hour day that started at 1am my time (9am here), I was propping my eyes open with toothpicks and seriously slurring my words.

I believe I used the phrase ‘keep the smott pol’ instead of saying ‘keep the pot small’ at one point. The scary thing is, nobody on the production staff caught it which means my general level of making sense, must have been very low.

The moral of the story here people, is to set the bar low. That way anything even ‘half way decent’ seems like utter genius.

The main thing I did yesterday was talk to a really lovely Party Poker player named Volcan. He’s originally from Turkey and is living in London now and grinds the small/medium stakes SNGs for a living.

Keep the smott pol

We filmed the two of us looking at an $11 SNG that he played and talking through some of the hands to give players who are new to the game, a chance to see someone play those stakes. Hopefully you all find it really interesting when it comes out. Volcan was a really nice guy and it is great to give some props to a player who is making a living on Party Poker.

I’m not sure when the video will be all edited and ready to post but when you watch it and notice that I’m a bit glassy-eyed and can’t speak properly, have some sympathy for the extreme jet-lag. And if you decide to start saying ‘keep the smott pol’ in solidarity, all the better.

Tomorrow I head out to Venice to catch up with the hardworking crew who are there blogging updates for the WPT as well as the brilliant TV crew who have somehow managed to figure out how to put a whole TV truck and it’s equipment onto a gondola. Okay, maybe it’s a bit bigger than a gondola but it’s still a feat!

My bags were lost by BA (thanks so much) so I’ve had to go and buy a new outfit today to get ready for filming our final table in a couple of days. Thankfully, I’m not jet-lagged anymore as I think shopping on Regent Street in London on a Saturday may have killed me otherwise. As I was leaving the hotel in Mayfair today, I noticed that the lobby music had a certain ‘bow chicka wow wow’ porn vibe to it.

Crazy! It’s a very reputable (and posh!) hotel so I’m not sure what was going on there. It did put a swagger in my step and very nearly caused me to buy a leopard print D&G dress which I DON’T think the WPT would have been too happy about me wearing while hosting the final table. I managed to pull myself away before plunking down my credit card, but it was very, very close.

Okay, so maybe I am still a little jet-lagged.
