Malta is GORGEOUS! I got here a couple of days ago for the World Poker Tour event and I knew as soon as I saw the stunning Maltese coastline from the airplane that I was going to like it here. The view from the hotel is of palm trees waving in tropical breezes – what’s not to like? It has to be said – the European destinations for the WPT are kicking ass so far.
Yesterday I had a day off so I took a taxi to Mdina with a friend and we wandered around the old city, taking in the sights. Our taxi driver turned out to be quite the tour guide as well and he gave us a brief history of the island which only gained it’s independence in 1979. As he said, “Malta is small but our culture and history are far larger than our borders.”
The Player’s Party was held out on the deck of the hotel bar so that we could all enjoy the warm evening air. It was a relaxed affair and gave us a chance to meet the new European Royal Flush girls Violet and Raysa. They seem really sweet and I’m sure will be a great addition to the World Poker Tour.
I start playing today at 4pm which is a bit late for a non-night owl like me but it does give us all a chance to get some Mediterranean sun before settling down to serious business.
