Hello Vancouver – I am in you!
Toronto was fabulous (great people, awesome city) but waaaay too short a visit. I just landed here on the West Coast from Ontario and thankfully I now have 5 days in Vancouver to settle in.
Yesterday was a jam-packed day. At 8am I met up with the lovely women of MCA who took great care of my sniffling, miserable, cold-ridden self and ferried me around to interviews.
We started off by going to The Edge for the Dean Blundell show. I had a great time with the guys and from what I’ve heard, they were definitely on their best behaviour with me.
It’s generally a very male oriented show …. let me put it this way. If they were on Mastermind, their specialist subject would be boobs. Anyhow, I think they let me off pretty easy and were actually a bunch of pussycats.
I would have forgiven them a lot though as the building that their studio is in has a 50 foot slide that winds in circles from the first floor to the ground floor. Once the interview was over, they must have been happy with how it went because a production assistant led us to the slide and ushered us on our way.
Best. Exit. Ever.
We had a little bit of time before the next ‘in person’ interview and so after the phone ins were done (for Y108FM and Chill Magazine) we had a bit of time to kill. Rima (the lovely lady who was looking after me) saw that I was really struggling to breathe and get around with this nasty head cold, so she grabbed me some flu meds.
How did I repay this angel of mercy? Well, I made her watch zombies on TV with me. I don’t know if you’ve seen The Walking Dead (a new TV series with British hottie actor Andrew Lincoln) but it’s freaking terrifying. I had downloaded the first few episodes to watch during my trip and actually had to turn it off 5 or 6 times in the first half hour. I’m a wuss, yes. Easily scared, yes. Love zombie movies…. ironically, yes.
Rima though, she’s less a fan of scary things. Bless her though, she bravely huddled on the sofa with me as we watched through our fingers as the undead rampaged across the screen.
She is a trooper – definitely.
We finished off the day with an appearance on Bob McCown on Prime Time Sports. It was great to meet him and chat a bit about poker in general, tournaments and High Stakes Poker (which we start filming in a couple of weeks).
After dinner and after a big old dose of NyQuil, I was unconscious until my alarm woke me to leave for the airport. And now I’m here! The BCPC starts tomorrow at noon here at the River Rock Casino and I’m about to go and check out the room and buy in. This place is really cute. It’s like a ski lodge!
No lie, it feels awesome to be back in Canada. I’ve really missed it. Hopefully in 2011 I’ll be back here way more.
