Nice profit for James, but he’s worried about his nuts

Posted by Stefan Dicembre in General on December 7, 2007

Week Three of James “HullJimi” Greenwood’s PartyPoker Bankroll Challenge, and he’s up to a respectable figure already.

Week 3 starting roll: $45.47

Hands played (this week): 913

Current bankroll: $69.34

Overall profit: $44.34

So, another week at micro limits – and I’m getting my head round it now, I think!

I’ve been dealt A-A 6 times this week and it’s held 66.6% of the time – holding against K-K and Q-Q for a massive $6 pot! I think to be fair to Nick (“The Cloud”, the previous challenger), he was losing these races, and when you’re not fully rolled, you really do need to see A-A holding.

I’m going to do something slightly different this week and post a hand history. I can’t decide whether I played this like a genius or an idiot, so I’m going to comment on the hand history and then I’d like you to as well:

Seat 9 is the button

Total number of players : 5
Seat 3: cornholio80 ( $5.96 USD )
Seat 5: alkanavt20 ( $1.56 USD )
Seat 10: doug580 ( $6.36 USD )
Seat 4: lllwhitelll ( $2.87 USD )
Seat 9: HullJimi ( $7.27 USD )

Hooray for me!

doug580 posts small blind [$0.02 USD].
cornholio80 posts big blind [$0.04 USD].

** Dealing down cards **

Dealt to HullJimi [ Qc Js ]
lllwhitelll folds
alkanavt20 calls [$0.04 USD]
HullJimi raises [$0.16 USD]

I’m on the button, and whilst this is a loose raise, the table is short handed.

doug580 folds
cornholio80 calls [$0.12 USD]
alkanavt20 folds

** Dealing Flop ** [ Ac, 6d, Ks ]

cornholio80 checks
HullJimi bets [$0.24 USD]
cornholio80 calls [$0.24 USD]

Wondered if the Ace might scare him off – is mine a stupid bet or not?

For what it’s worth, it was a quick call but I have a draw (although it’s not a great one).

** Dealing Turn ** [ Td ]

I’ve hit. What could he have here? With no read on the villain, what do you put him on?

cornholio80 bets [$0.50 USD]
HullJimi raises [$1.76 USD]
cornholio80 raises [$2.74 USD]
HullJimi calls [$1.48 USD]

It’s surely all going to go in on the river, has he got A-K?

** Dealing River ** [ 2c ]

cornholio80 is all-In [$2.32 USD]
HullJimi calls [$2.32 USD]
cornholio80 shows [ 6s, Ad ]two pairs, Aces and Sixes.
HullJimi shows [ Qc, Js ]a straight Ten to Ace.

HullJimi wins $11.39 USD from the main pot with a straight, Ten to Ace.

So I stacked him, but I’m not sure about my raise before the flop and on the flop. Have I just played like the players I’ve been moaning about in previous posts?

One last thing, congratulations to my “online” mate Kenn121 who took down a massive score ($44K) by winning the PartyPoker $300K Guaranteed Sunday (blogged in the last few days on here). Well played, mate!

* The PartyPoker Bankroll Challenge involves starting with $25 and making it grow as far as possible – but by using solid bankroll management. Basically, that means not risking more than 5% of your roll at any time.
